Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangalore, established under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, is ranked 70th among the universities in India by NIRF, Graded ‘A’ by MHRD and NAAC. It is an off shoot of Nitte Education trust, founded in 1979 by Late Justice K. S. Hegde, former speaker of Loka Sabha, a legal luminary and a committed Philanthropist. More than 30 institutions (17 Health Science Institutions, 4 Engineering and Technical Institutions, 5 Management Institutions, a college of Mass Communication & Journalism, 2 Colleges of Architecture, 2 first grade colleges, 3 Pre-University Colleges, 4 Schools and a healthcare network of 2 Hospitals and 20 Rural Health Centres) are run by the trust. All the healthcare institutions of the trust come under Nitte (Deemed to University).
Spread across three campuses at Bangalore, Mangalore and Nitte, the institutions under Nitte group have gained national eminence. The University has signed MoUs with several institutions and Universities in India and abroad. Faculty and student exchange programmes, collaborative research programs with these Universities has resulted in strong research base in the University.
NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (NGSMIPS), Mangalore, the host of ICAPHS - 2020, is a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University). It is ranked 33rd in the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2019 (NIRF). The UG programme (B.Pharm.) is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and the college is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
